Movie Monday: Chef

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago. It was released in SXSW in March and across the US in selected theaters in May so it’s quite possible you already watched it which I hope you did. If you haven’t I really suggest you do. This independent comedy drama is described as follows:

When Chef Carl Casper suddenly quits his job at a prominent LA restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity, he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife, his friend, and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—and zest for life and love. – Apple Trailers

But it really is so much more. This is the story about following your passion, about identifying and enjoying the important things in life like friendship and family, about good food and cooking good food, and also about the power of social media. Yep, you’ll get a few lessons on how to go viral.

TOP LESSONS FROM CHEF
  • Follow your passion wherever it takes you.
  • When someone offers help just say thanks and enjoy the ride.
  • Surround yourself by people who believe in you.
  • Learn social media – like, really learn it 😆 to make it work for you and not against you (click here for more marketing lessons from Chef)
  • Entrepreneurial tip a la Henry Ford… “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” Chef Casper’s trip to the bottom is what catapults him to the top; so don’t fear failure. (more entrepreneurial lessons from Chef here)

As an added bonus for me it didn’t hurt that it was a Hispanic-American themed movie so a lot of the flavors brought me home in many ways. Check here for some of the recipes showcased in the movie. YUM! Now, excuse me… I’m gonna fix me a cuban sandwich.

Have you seen this film? How did you like it?
